Careers
At our St Martin's careers education forms an important part of our wider personal development curriculum. We believe that introducing children to the world of work from an early age helps them to develop aspirations, challenge stereotypes and begin to understand how their learning relates to life beyond school.
Our careers programme is designed in line with the Careers Development Institute (CDI) learning aims and is delivered through a spiral curriculum. This approach ensures that key ideas such as self‑awareness, understanding jobs and roles in society, and developing positive attitudes to learning are revisited regularly and built upon as pupils progress through the school. Learning is carefully sequenced so that children deepen their understanding year on year in an age‑appropriate and meaningful way.
We use Unifrog to support careers learning in a primary cont
ext by providing engaging activities, videos an
d discussion prompts that help pupils explore jobs, skills and aspirations. Unifrog resources are used to complement lessons, assemblies and enrichment activities, encouraging children to reflect on their strengths and interests while learning about the wide range of roles people play in the world around them.
We are proud to be one of the first 20 schools to achieve the Primary Futures Gold Award for our careers education.

Career of the month
As part of our commitment to raising aspirations and broadening pupils’ understanding of the world of work, we take part in Unifrog’s Career of the Month. Each month (since March 2026), children are introduced to a different career and learn about what the role involves, the skills needed and the positive contribution it makes to society.
The programme encourages pupils to develop curiosity about future possibilities and helps them make links between their learning in school and real‑life careers. Through age‑appropriate activities and discussions, pupils begin to understand that there are many different pathways open to them and that their education will support them in achieving their ambitions.
