At St Martin’s, we are proud to be a family where every single person belongs and everyone is loved equally. Rooted in our Christian vision and guided by our FRESH values—Friendship, Respect, Empathy, Sharing, and Humility, we actively promote the fundamental British values though our curriculum and day to day interactions.
We believe that being different is good, and we celebrate the God-given gifts we have been blessed with. Our school community is built on love, inclusion, and the belief that every child can shine brightly and make a positive difference as God’s caretakers of the world.
How We Live Out British Values

Democracy: Children’s voices are heard and valued through our school council, pupil leadership roles, and regular opportunities to contribute to decision-making. We teach that everyone has a right to be heard and that together, we can shape a better future. They understand how decisions are made within Britain, the purpose of local elections and Parliament, our year 5 and 6 children are visiting London's Parliament in Sept 2026. They know the word Democracy comes from the Greek Demos, meaning people and Kratos meaning power- power of the people.

Rule of Law: Our behaviour policies reflect fairness, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Children learn the importance of rules in keeping everyone safe within school and in society and the Christian principles of justice and compassion. The children are taught about Moses accepting The Ten Commandments from God and how many of these relate to the laws in Britain today.

Individual Liberty: We encourage children to grow in confidence, make choices, and explore their unique identity. Every child is supported to reach their full potential, knowing they are loved and valued. Our children are taught that they are responsible for their choices, the things they do and the things they say and how these can impact on others. They know that Individual Liberty does not simply mean that they can do whatever they choose.

Mutual Respect: Respect is central to our FRESH values and approach to relationships and behaviour. We teach children to honour and celebrate one another’s differences, celebrate diversity, and build positive relationships rooted in kindness and empathy. Our children are taught that we are all equally important, but that some people may need extra resources to achieve the same things - that equality is not the same as equity.

Tolerance (Celebration) of Different Faiths and Beliefs: While rooted in the Christian faith, we embrace the richness of our multi-faith society. Through RE, collective worship, and curriculum experiences, children learn to understand and celebrate others, fostering peace and unity. We celebrate with other faiths, recognising the main festivals and their customs. At St Martin's we are a family, where everyone is welcome and will be treated with respect without exception. We will not tolerate any form of discriminatory language.
Inspired by Philippians 4:13 ‘I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength’, we equip our children with the academic and personal skills they need to thrive, preparing them for the next part of their learning journey and life beyond school.
