Enrichment at St Martin’s

Enrichment is a vital part of life at St Martin’s. It helps every child flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Rooted in our Christian ethos and FRESH values — Friendship, Respect, Empathy, Sharing and Humility — our enrichment offer broadens horizons, builds confidence and nurtures each child’s unique gifts.

Our programme meets the national Enrichment Benchmarks and is intentionally planned, inclusive and strongly connected to our curriculum and Personal Development Offer.

1. Leadership & Civic Engagement


We help children understand their role in the community and develop leadership skills through:

  • Pupil leadership roles across school, showing democracy education

  • Charity events and fundraising both locally and Nationally

  • Community projects and volunteering

  • Links with St Matthew’s Church

  • Opportunities to represent our school at local events

2. Arts & Culture


Children experience rich cultural opportunities that inspire creativity and imagination:

  • Art showcases and creative CUSP curriculum

  • Learning about famous artists through our Inspirational Individuals e.g. Jane Goodall and David Attenborough

  • Music, singing and drama  - opportunities to enjoy and perform

  • Theatre, museum and gallery visits

  • Visiting artists and workshops

3. Nature, Adventure & Outdoors

We use the outdoors to build confidence, curiosity and resilience

  • Environmental and sustainability projects through our CUSP curriculum and after school clubs

  • Residential visits and adventurous activities, three chances to visit three different Sandwell residential centres

  • Trips linked to nature and science

  • Being Gods' Caretakers of the World

  • OPAL Play – Outdoor Play and Learning lunchtimes 


4. Sports & Physical Activity


Physical activity supports wellbeing, teamwork and healthy lifestyles:

  • Sports after school clubs and teams - football and St Martin's Striders

  • Competitions and representing the school

  • Active playtimes

  • Active bursts during the day

  • Sporting heroes included in our Inspirational Individuals

5. Wider Life Skills


We prepare children for life beyond primary school through:

  • Wellbeing and safety education

  • Our Super 7 - characteristics to build resilience, pride, ambition etc

  • Leadership roles across school

  • Careers encounters and career of the month

  • STEM challenges through our curriculum

  • Debating, problem‑solving and enterprise activities for our Christmas and Summer fairs

Our enrichment offer is intentionally inclusive. We remove barriers for disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND through:
