Celebrating Birthdays

Traditionally parents may choose to send sweets or cakes to share with the children in their child’s class, however, due to the new Early Years Framework, we are no longer able to allow sweets and cakes to be bought into school.

Rather than sweets, we are asking parents to allow school to celebrate the children’s special day with them.

We are going to be offering the following non-food-based treats for the children on their special day.

They can wear their own clothes for the day
Be the line leader all day
They will have the class ‘birthday’ badge to wear all day
They will receive a card from their class
They will receive a birthday pencil during Friday worship if their birthday has been during that week.  We will also sing Happy Birthday to all members of our school community who are celebrating a birthday.

If a child’s birthday falls at the weekend, we will offer them their treat day on the Monday after. If the birthday falls in the school holidays, we will celebrate on the Friday before.

We hope that this approach will ensure that every child feels special on their birthday whilst they are in school. We also hope to reduce some of the financial pressures put on parents to send in treats for the whole class.
