'I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength' - Philippians 4:13

At St Martin's, our daily acts of collective worship play a vital role in the life of our school. It is an opportunity to come together and share what is important. It is central to the Christian character of our school and allows pupils and adults to encounter faith by engaging in conversations about God. As we are a Church of England school, the acts of worship are mainly Christian, although the beliefs and customs of other religions are respected and valued too.

Collective worship at St Martin's gives pupils and school staff the opportunity to:

  • Engage in an act of community.
  • Express praise and thanksgiving to God.
  • Be still and reflect.
  • Explore the big questions of life and respond to national events.
  • Foster respect and deepen spiritual awareness.
  • Reflect on the character of God and on the teachings of Christ.
  • Affirm Christian values and attitudes.
  • Share each other's joys and challenges.
  • Celebrate special times in the Christian calendar.

Each school half term has a different collective worship theme, these are linked to our Christian values and the liturgical calendar. We use the Roots and Fruits schemes of work and Roots and Fruits Jack in the box for our younger children.

Our children enjoy taking on various roles in leading collective worship. These include roles before worship including setting up, welcoming and planning. This also includes, reading, writing and leading prayers, acting, role play and singing hymns.

Parental Right of Withdrawal from Collective Worship

Parents have the right to withdraw their child from collective worship. If a parent wishes to consider this option, please contact the school office and arrange a time to discuss this with the Head Teacher.

Our School Prayers

We pray regularly during the school day, at the end of worship, before lunchtime and before home time.

At the end of Worship - Our School Prayer

This is Our school

Let Peace dwell here

Let the rooms be full of contentment

Let Love abide here; love of one another, love of mankind and love of God

Let us remember that although many hands may have built our school, it’s our many hearts that make our school.

Dear God,

Please bless our school, here at St Martin’s that by working together, playing together and learning together, we may learn to serve thee and serve one another. For Jesus’ sake.

Amen

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, which art in heaven,

hallowed be thy Name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done

on earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

 as we forgive those

 that trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

The power, and the glory,

For ever and ever.

Amen.

Lunchtime Prayer

Thank you for the world so sweet,

Thank you for the food we eat.

Thank you for the birds that sing,

Thank you, God, for everything.

Amen

Lunchtime Prayer (Spanish Translation) - Key Stage 2

Thank you for the world so sweet,

Gracias por el mundo tan dulce,

Thank you for the food we eat.

Gracias por la comida que comemos.

Thank you for the birds that sing,

Gracias por los pàjaros que cantan,

Thank you, God, for everything.

Gracias, a Dios, por todo.

Amen
