Music
Vision
Our vision is first and foremost to help our children to feel that they are musical, and to develop a life-long love of music. Throughout our music lessons, we focus on developing the skills, knowledge and understanding that children need in order to become confident performers, composers and listeners. Our curriculum introduces children to music from all around the world and across generations, teaching children to respect and appreciate the music of all traditions and communities.
Our music curriculum has been designed to provide full coverage in-line with the Model Music Curriculum. We follow the scheme set out by Charanga and it is supplemented by additional instrumental and singing opportunities in clubs, such a singing and handbells.
See below for the overview of what we teach.
Children in years 3 and 4 are taught weekly whole class trumpet by a visiting music teacher.
The whole school come together every Wednesday in our Singing Worship, which is a time of great joy, the children see singing as another way to pray to God.
Composer or Music of the Week
In addition to our curriculum offer we also ensure our children are exposed to a wide range of music through our listening calendar. Each week, we focus on a composer or type of music, which the children listen to and appraise during the week in their classrooms.
We also play the music in the dining hall at lunchtime. As a school we discuss the music in our whole school Friday praise worship.

Staff 'Who Chose that Tune?'
To widen the range of music the children hear each week, we introduced a staff 'Who Chose that Tune?' element to Friday Praise Worship.
Each week the children hear a song chosen by a mystery member of staff, then then try to choose who may have chosen it. Once the staff member has been revealed, they explain why they chose that song. The children have heard many reasons, some are related to fond memories, special people, a moment in time, or simply because the enjoy it.
The children are often surprised by the staff member and the reason, proving that music reaches across all ages and can be a great healer, a source of joy and comfort.
