  • VE Day Art Pieces

Fri 16 May 2025 Mrs Rought

We have now completed our four VE Day art pieces.

    1. A soldier showing names and photos of relatives of staff and children who served in WW2

    2. A soldier showing the words from the Peace Card given to us, each class presented a line or two.

    3. A VE Day Union Jack, made from plastic bottle tops, which hold the names of staff, pupils and parents.

    4. A Lowry inspired VE Day picture, with each child from years 1-6 included.

We will display these pieces with pride in our school.

  • Talent Show Auditions

Thu 15 May 2025 Mrs Rought

This afternoon we held auditions for our first talent show! We were so impressed by the range of acts and talent we have - we say singers, dancers, comedians, artists and lots more!

The final showcase will be held in June, but a huge well done to everyone who took part, it was fantastic!

  • VE Day Celebrations at St Martin's

Fri 09 May 2025 Mrs Rought

What a fantastic day we have had in school today, celebrating the very special 80th anniversary of VE Day.

The staff and children came to school dressed in 1940s clothes, as they arrived at school we had 1940s wartime tunes playing and the bunting was out!  The children all bought along some food for our class street parties.

We all completed work for our collaborative art projects, which will share soon. We also sang along to some war time songs and learnt all about VE Day and why it was such a special day in 1945 and why we should always remember.

The children in years R-Year 6 all had a class workshop led by Jake from As Creatives, each with a different focus. Jake complimented our children and staff for their enthusiasm and excellent attitude during the sessions.

  • VE Day Gifts for Children

Thu 08 May 2025 Mrs Rought

To mark the official VE Day 80th anniversary, each child was given two special things to bring home.

Firstly, a Peace Card, donated to each child from the Tipton Local History Group. Please see the photo attached to see the beautiful detail that has been added and the poignant words, which we will be exploring with the children.

Secondly, school have purchased a special VE Day 80th anniversary pin badge for each child and staff member to keep.

We have also learnt a beautiful song which has been written to commemorate this special day.

Tomorrow will be our school's VE Day Celebration Day, full of dressing up, street parties, a war time sing along and learning through workshops.

  • Year 5 Trip to the Black Country Museum

Wed 07 May 2025 Mrs Rought

What a fantastic day! Year 5 had a great time at the Black Country Living Museum today. Their behaviour was outstanding and they enjoyed every minute.

Particular highlights were the Victorian school lesson, playing the Victorian street games, watching Laurel and Hardy in the cinema, and asking lots of questions about the artefacts in the different buildings.

Lots of children have said that they would love to go again with their families so that they can share the experience with them!

  • First Aid Training sessions for children

Fri 02 May 2025 Mrs Rought

Today all the children from reception to year 6 had an incredibly important visit from Dudley Community First Responders, who talked to us about what to do in an emergency.

This included life saving process of danger, response, shout for help, catastrophic bleeding, air way, breathing, CPR and defibrillator.

A huge thank you for those volunteers for the amazing work that they do, but also for giving up their time to come and inform us and help us to understand what to do.

  • Year 5 visit to Q3 Academy to see We Will Rock You!

Wed 30 Apr 2025 Mrs Rought

Today our year 5 children walked to Q3 Academy to see their performance of We Will Rock You!

The had a fantastic time and were a real credit to St Martin's in how the conducted themselves on the walk to Q3 and during the show.

A huge thankyou to Q3 for the invite.

  • KS2 Easter Performances

Fri 11 Apr 2025 Mrs Rought

Today our key stage 2 children performed an Easter themed assembly to their family and friends.

They all sang beautiful songs and told the Easter story clearly, showing a deep understanding of the Easter story told to us in the Bible, years 5 and 6 did this is rhyme!

I am sure everyone who attended was moved by the meaning of the songs and by how well they were performed. A huge thankyou to the staff and children for their hard work in perfecting their performances and to their friends and family for attending.

  • EYFS Easter Bonnets and Performance

Fri 11 Apr 2025 Mrs Rought

Today our youngest children performed for their parents in a very special Easter bonnet event.

Not only did the children show off their bonnets, they also sang lots of Easter songs with confidence and pride. It was clear that lots of hard work had gone into learning the words and actions.

We hope that the grown ups who came to watch enjoyed the show!

  • Easter Disco

Wed 09 Apr 2025 Mrs Rought

    Tonight was our Easter disco!

The children (and staff) had the best time, dancing and singing along to the music. They also enjoyed the tuck shop, which was run by our parent volunteers.

We raised nearly £400 for our school fund as well!
